A Cure for Cracks in Concrete

The microbe, created by a team of researchers at the Newcastle University, has been programmed to swim down fine cracks in the concrete.  Once at the bottom,  it produces a mixture of calcium carbonate and a bacterial cells to “knit” the building back together, the researchers said. It as been aptly named as “BacillaFilla” It has been developed to prolong the life of structures which are environmentally costly to build, said the researchers who designed it as part of a science competition in the US.

Teachers and dull classrooms

Schools only want teachers who can help students score high marks.  May be 10% of schools in the country want or allow teachers to be different.  But, it is not enough for teachers to identify the face of the child whose name is on the attendance register.

Lessons to Learn

Today, many school managements, parents and students consider academics to be the sole purpose of a school.  This forces them to curtail the creativity of a teacher when they try to attempt anything out of the ordinary, calling it a waste of time.  Others believe that such a loss of individuality is largely self-created, and that rarely do teachers make use of the freedom to innovate.  Sometimes, educational policies framed by government agencies are also to be blamed for the loss of individual professional autonomy.  The result is that teachers, overwhelmed by the need to maintain records of marks of so many different components or assess students on so many factors in the case of CCE, give in to the temptation of taking the beaten path.

Stop Kidnapping Children

Kidnapping of school children:

Kidnapping the school children is increasing day by day.  Even though the accused are given severe punishment, there is no change or avoidable one.  The Govt., schools and parents should think seriously about this and should make necessary changes.

Steps to be taken:

  1. The Government should come forward to appoint each school a police officer.

  1. The parents should send the children in school vans rather than sending them in private vans.

  1. The details of each van drivers, car drivers, and auto drivers should be collected by the school and registered at near by Police station.

  1. The school must provide van facility with minimum fees as a transport cost. Each school van, a teacher nearby that area should accompany a minimum of 30 students.  So that the parents will be motivated to send their children in school vans.

  1. Every school must have a rule that their students should be staying in and around not more that 3 Kms. So that the students can come with their parents.

  1. Teachers should take care of their students not only for the primary section but also for the high school.

  1. Govt. and school authorities must install circuit cameras outside the school premises.

Pollution - School Projects for students

Land pollution

A pollutant is substance that pollutes the environment. The land we live on is polluted with litter. Litter is the dirt we throw out such as wrappers, building material, plastics and used bottles. Garbage dumped on the land causes land pollution. It is caused only by air.

Prevention of land pollution

We must not throw garbage everywhere. We must separate the garbage before we take it to proper bins.  The kitchen waste such as vegetable and fruit peels, paper, and leftover food should be collected separately.  They become a part of the soil after some time.  Paper, plastic, glass, and tine cans can  be recycled. Recycling means that they can be re-used. These cannot be degraded, as they cannot become a part of the soil. In this way, we can protect our environment and make the earth a safe and healthy place to live.

Air pollution

All living things need air. The air we breathe is polluted with smoke and dust. We must breathe clean, fresh air.  Pure air keeps us healthy.  Impure air is bad for health.  Dust, smoke, and some gases are found in air.  Some gases are poisonous and bad for our health. When we burn fuel it leaves behind waste.  Some waste gets into the air.  This makes the air dirty.  Cigarette smoke is harmful. It pollutes the air.

This can be avoided in many ways

Plants and trees make the air clean.  So we must plant trees and shrubs at home, in school in parks, and or roadsides. We must not cut them down.  Car owners must keep their vehicles in good condition.  They must use unleaded petrol. Unleaded petrol does not give out smoke.  Factories should not be allowed to pollute the air by burning their waste.

Water Pollution

Water is important to us. Rivers are used for washing clothes, for bathing, and for washing animals. Drains from households, and toxic wastes from factories empty into rivers and make them dirty.  Living creatures in the water such as fish, can die in polluted water.

Like air, water is needed by all living things. We must drink clean water. Polluted water makes us sick. Our skin will be affected if we bathe in polluted water. Water is polluted in many ways.  Garbage, waste, and germs pollute water.  All houses and streets must have drainpipes. We should not drink water straight from the tap.  It should be boiled and filtered.  Boiling  water will kill the germs.  Filtering it will make the water clean.  We must keep our ponds and rivers clean.

Noise pollution

A loud and unpleasant sound is called noise. Televisions, music systems, vehicle horns repeatedly caused noise pollution. Too much of noise is bad for our health.

All kinds of pollution must be controlled. Let us keep our homes and surroundings clean, rivers and sources of water clean, and the air we breathe in clean, by not polluting any of these.

Environment - school projects

What is Environment?

Environment means all the things that are around us. It includes all living and non-living things. We must have a clean surrounding to live and to stay healthy for both living and non-living things.
For that the land, the air and the water must be clean and pure. But due to some reason it is getting polluted. We must be environment-friendly. That means we must not do things that will harm the surroundings. We must do things that will make our environment a safe and a better place to live in.
